Board of Directors

Terry Kennedy, Chairman of the Board

It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Board President and long time donor and volunteer, Terry Kennedy.  He was extremely dedicated to JHF, serving as either a volunteer or Board member for more than 30 years.  He helped to steer us though some major transitions and he was instrumental in helping to lead and complete our recent expansion and site improvement project.  His kindness and partnership in all that we do will be missed very dearly.  Terry's obituary can be found here.

Terry served on the Board of Directors of the John Henry Foundation for the last ten years. His oldest daughter is a resident of Moore Village, which is the main housing and offices of the program.  Terry and his family have been a part of JHF since its inception.  Terry and his wife Pam were charter board members in 1989.  She was then the parent representative on a board full of senior executives and CEO's of prominent Orange County businesses.

Len Kranser, Treasurer

Len joined the Board in 2009 and has served as the Foundation's Treasurer since then.  Len's particular focus at JHF is to help keep the Foundation financially viable and affordable for the families that need to entrust their members to JHF for long-term care.  He was instrumental in securing the property next door to Moore Village and sees the planned expansion as a way to spread overhead costs over a larger base of residents while pursuing JHF's mission of caring for adults with Schizophrenia.

Mary Ellen Stuart, Vice Chairman

Mary Ellen has been involved with the John Henry Foundation since 2008 when her brother became a resident.  During the course of her brother’s illness, she became educated in the various treatment program options.  She witnessed what amazing things could be done by good organizations to truly benefit the lives of the mentally ill.  Mary Ellen joined the Board in January 2019 and is hopeful that her experience will assist in furthering the mission of the John Henry Foundation.

Chris Schaefer, Member

Chris her interest in JHF goes back more than 20 years and has been on the Board for the last eight.  Her professional accomplishments include multiple Director positions with Developmentally Disabled Adults, Director of Administrative Services, City Clerk, and Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Pico Rivera.  She has also served with the Alzheimer's Association of OC, was on the OC Grand Jury and planning commission for the city of Placentia while holding Board positions with The Whole Child.

Sarah Hammarstrom, Member

Sarah joined the Board in 2017.  She was the Owner, Administrator and Licensee for two Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly that provided 24-hour board and care for seniors with staff of 20 caregivers. She has extensive knowledge of licensing laws and regulations similar to those being followed by the John Henry Foundation. She hopes her experience and knowledge will help us work towards creating a facility where our Residents may age in place.
